Bears end Shield campaign with a win!
Redcar Agilia Bears finished off their Championship Shield campaign with an impressive 52-38 win over the Scunthorpe Scorpions at the Media Prima Arena on Friday night.
On a bright, but cold evening, the fans were treated to some excellent racing. Heat 2 saw some superb team riding by Nathan Greaves and Jack Smith to grab a 5-1 and really kick start the night. The meeting too-ed and fro-ed in the early stages, with the Bears leading by two points after 5 heats.
Heat Six saw a rejuvenated Michael Palm Toft take the win over Jake Allen to increase the Bears lead to four points before another couple of shared heats. Heat 9 saw a superb ride from Jordan Stewart, as he battled with Allen for all four laps before sneaking up the inside on the run to the line to take the victory. Heat 10 was another thriller, with MPT, Tom Bacon and Jason Garrity all fighting side by side for a couple of laps before Stefan Nielsen fell causing the race to be stopped. In the re-run, MPT again got the better of Garrity for another good win.
Going into the crucial heat 13, the Bears led by 6. The ever-impressive Charles Wright and Michael Palm Toft delivered superbly, getting a maximum 5-1 to give the Bears a 10 point lead and confirm victory on the night. Heat 15 again saw Wright, MPT and Allen together joined by the impressive Danny Ayres. Despite the very best efforts of Jake Allen, the result was the same with MPT getting the win just ahead of Wright for another Bears 5-1.
Bears promoter Jitendra Duffill was happy with his teams work, and feels his side is getting some good momentum ahead of the start of the Cup and League campaigns:
I’m pleased to get that much needed win under our belts, but I always felt it was just a matter of time. We are a much better team than we have shown so far but this result demonstrates our potential. We seem to be finding our feet at just the right time and I was impressed with every member of the side. As for the racing, I honestly feel that you will not see a better speedway meeting anywhere in the country this year. The racing was absolutely phenomenal and we are so lucky to have such a special race track here on Teesside. Massive thanks to all our track staff who are doing an amazing job and to our volunteers who make all of this possible.
The Bears are next in home action next Friday, with Somerset and Chris Harris the visitors in the KO Cup.
