British Under 21 Final comes to Teesside
Today, the Redcar Agilia Bears’ promotion received the thrilling news that they will be staging the 2021 British Under 21 Final. The prestigious event, which will see a British Champion crowned on Teesside, will take place on Friday 16th July at 7.30pm.
The news comes after the club stepped in last minute to stage one of the Semi-Finals last month, following its postponement in Newcastle a few days earlier. That round was won by Kent Kings’ Rising Star Dan Gilkes, who earned his place in the final after dropping just a single point on the night.
Club boss Jitendra Duffill told us, “I’m very excited to have been handed the chance to stage such an important event. Jade (Mudgway), Jamie (Swales) and I applied for the final after the successful staging of the Semi-Final here last month, as the 16th July at Redcar seemed a great fit for us and British Speedway – there is only a single fixture clash as this date was originally reserved for the Championship Pairs, and the Media Prima is such a fair track that always produces great racing. It will give the very best of our British youth a great stage to perform on, allowing them to race hard and to showcase their talent. I’m expecting an epic British Under 21 Final and we can’t wait!”
Redcar fans have the added bonus that 2 Bears riders are in the starting line up – Jordan Jenkins qualified after winning the first Semi-Final in Mildenhall, scoring a 15 point maximum, whereas Anders Rowe was seeded to the final after finishing 3rd in the 2020 British Under-21 Final. Both Jenkins and Rowe have shown huge promise so far this year and have a great chance of earning themselves the biggest prize of their careers so far
The young Bears’ stars will not have things easy though, as the 16 rider line up is packed full of riders who are capable of taking the title and have plenty of experience of the Media Prima Arena. Leon Flint, Drew Kemp and Tom Brennan are all seeded after finishing 2nd, 4th and 5th respectively in the 2020 Final, and each are scoring well for their Championship sides in 2021.
The field is completed with the 2021 Semi-Final qualifiers Jake Mulford, Nathan Ablitt, Jack Parkinson-Blackburn, Sam Bebee, Alex Spooner, Kyle Bickley, Jason Edwards, Dan Thompson, Joe Thompson and Tom Spencer.
One thing that is certain, is that 2021 will see a new champion crowned, as 2020 winner and existing title holder Dan Bewley is no longer eligible to race in the competition due to his age. Tickets will go on sale via www.redcar-speedway.com on Friday 9th July from 9am.
