King: I’m loving life at Redcar!
Redcar’s Danny King has spoken about how much he is enjoying his debut year as a Redcar Bear ahead of tonight’s crunch KO Cup semi final 1st leg at Scunthorpe with tapes up at 7:30 at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
King, the 2016 British Champion said, “I cannot speak highly enough of Redcar, it’s a great club from top to bottom, from every staff member at every level. Redcar is an absolutely fantastic club that wants to win things and so do I! I’m really enjoying my time here!”
The Bears have once again called on the services of Luke Harrison to guest in place of Jake Mulford and King was impressed with the Bears guest at Glasgow, “ I was very impressed with Luke at Glasgow, he seems like a very level headed young man. Luke is a Scunthorpe lad so he will have done a lot of laps around the Eddie Wright Raceway so that will be good for us. He also hasn’t been racing on the 500cc machines for too long but there will be no pressure on him, if he can go and score a few points that will be a bonus for us.”
King also echoed the thoughts of Gavin Parr on the recent average change which has sent Jason Edwards back into the reserve berth with Connor Bailey moving up into the main body of the side, “ We will always have one strong reserve and I think you will find that Jason and Connor will be swapping places throughout the season. Connor has also now got a place in the Premiership with Belle Vue so that will only help him progress further.”
With the Bears looking to reach back to back KO Cup finals, King knows there can’t be a repeat of Redcar’s 55-35 defeat at Scunthorpe earlier this season, “ Last time we were at Scunthorpe we were below par and consequently, they beat us quite convincingly. It is important we pick up results on the road and with the team we have, we are more than capable of going there and getting a result.”
King, who is averaging 8.79 at Championship level this campaign, is happy with his recent form, “ I’m happy with how I’m riding recently, at Glasgow I had a few bike problems but that happens! As the business end to the season approaches, I am hoping to hit form when it really matters in both leagues!”
King also believes that the Bears can win silverware this year, with King also believing a first league title since 1981 is possible, “ I know we’ve had a few rocky patches with initially losing Erik (Riss) and now losing Jake (Mulford) but I want to win for the club. It’s important we firstly get into the play-offs and when we do, it’s vital we go into them in the right form! I feel we are a team that is capable of winning this league!”
Scunthorpe are still without ankle injury victim Michael Palm-Toft with the Scorpions promotion calling on the services of Poole’s Ben Cook to guest in place of the Dane. Redcar have named an unchanged 1-7 from their trip to Glasgow with the side hoping to leave the Eddie Wright Raceway with a lead to defend 24 hours later at the ECCO Arena.
