Swales: There’s more to come from the Bears
Redcar co-promoter, Jamie Swales has fired a warning to the rest of the Cab Direct Championship ahead of the Bears KO Cup semi final 1st leg clash against Scunthorpe with tapes up at 7:30 at the ECCO Arena.
The former rider turned co-promoter said, “ I have been pleased with all of the boys so far this season but I know that they can all improve their level and that is great news for everybody, apart from the opposition! Also, I don’t think we’ve had a match where all 7 Bears have hit their stride so there’s definitely more to come from our side.”
Swales believes there’s no difference between hosting the 1st or 2nd leg with the Bears now hosting the 1st leg after inclement weather caused the original first leg at Scunthorpe scheduled for tonight to be postponed, “ I don’t see it making any difference, we go into every match, home or away trying to win every race as they come so having the first leg doesn’t change anything.”
Swales is also confident that the side can improve on Redcar’s 49-41 success over the Scorpions in April’s BSN Series clash, “ I think we were unlucky not to score more in that meeting, we can definitely improve on that performance this time!”
Redcar have drafted in ex Bear Ryan Kinsley to guest in place of Jake Mulford and Swales is confident the Oxford man can do a solid job for the Bears, “ Ryan knows the track well and he’s on decent form at the moment. He’s racing in both the Championship and the National League for Oxford and he’s had a busy period recently so that will hopefully benefit us on Saturday!”
With the 2nd leg still to be scheduled, Swales spoke candidly about the fixture backlog which may prevent the 2nd leg from taking place until September, “ It doesn’t look like we will be able to have the 2nd leg of this tie until September due to the league fixtures that are piled up for both teams.”
Redcar bring in the aforementioned Ryan Kinsley to guest in place of Jake Mulford whilst Charles Wright and Danny King will be looking to replicate their last home performance against the Scorpions when they fired in paid 30!
Scunthorpe once again call on the services of Poole starlet Ben Cook to guest in place of the injured Michael Palm-Toft whilst another former Bear, Jake Allen will be looking to improve on his last performance at the ECCO Arena when he scored an uncharacterised paid 6.
