Swales: We want to win things!
Redcar co-promoter, Jamie Swales has reassured supporters that the “Agilia” Bears are still aiming for silverware this season despite losing out to Poole last Friday at the ECCO Arena. Redcar host Plymouth in the Cab Direct Championship this Friday with tapes up at 7:30pm at the ECCO Arena.
Swales, whose family have a long running association with the sport in the North-East, knows the Gladiators cannot be taken for granted, ” Plymouth are on a bad run at the moment but they again, have track specialists including the former Bears captain Ben Barker.”
The former rider is also happy with his side’s start to the season overall, ” If you would have offered me this start to the season when we began 2023, I would have taken it but having some good away wins is not the aim for 2023, we are here to win things!”
Swales has also stated that the league & KO Cup are still very much up for grabs, despite Poole’s fantastic start to the season, ” Anything can happen, at this time last year, everyone was saying that Leicester were going to run away with things as they were dominant at the time. Form can change, other teams can change their side and there’s many fixtures to come! Yes, if the season was finishing tomorrow, Poole would probably win the league but there’s a long way to go yet!”
Redcar are without Jake Mulford for the clash with Swales explaining why, ” We knew when we signed Jake that he has a few Longtrack commitments but there won’t be many clashes. For Friday, we have brought in Connor Coles, who showed on his first visit this year he’s more than capable of riding our track and we are confident he can do similar whilst riding for us! The Plymouth reserves aren’t the strongest in the league so if he can get out of the gate I’m sure he’ll do well.
As mentioned, Redcar are forced into a change at reserve with Jake Mulford on FIM World Longtrack Challenge duty in France with Berwick’s Connor Coles stepping in. Meanwhile, Plymouth track 2 former Bears in the shape of the aforementioned Ben Barker and Ben Morley whilst New Zealand’s Jake Turner gets his first taste of the ECCO Arena circuit.
