Redcar SG Petch Bears v Workington Comets – Thursday 27th July – 7:30pm
Redcar SG Petch Bears will be looking to get back to winning ways this Thursday when they take on the Workington Comets at the Media Prima Arena (7:30pm start).
The SG Petch Bears jinx against the Peterborough Panthers continued last week, with a 45-45 draw at home followed by a 53-39 defeat at Peterborough on Sunday. There was some excellent racing on Thursday night, and manager Jitendra Duffill admits a draw was about the right result:
I came away from our meeting against Peterborough last week disappointed but on reflection a draw was a fair result. I have to say that I’m happy we won’t have to race them again this year as they are proving to be very difficult to beat.
This weeks opponents are the Workington Comets, who have already won once at the Media Prima Arena this season. They are led by Team GB star Craig Cook, but have a team full of riders who go well around the Teesside track – including Thomas Jorgensen, Ty Proctor and Matt Williamson. Duffill though is keen for the Bears to get their home record back on track, and indeed get some more points on the road:
We now find ourselves in a position where we must find more points on our travels. Dropping points at home hasn’t done our play off prospects any good which makes this weeks fixture another important one. Workington have already won here this year so we know they are a very capable team. Craig Cook is in excellent form and is a powerful number 1. Having said that, Ben Barker is a match for anybody at the moment and he will be very keen to get the better of him again on Thursday.
The Bears go into the meeting at full strength again, with Danny Ayres coming in off the back if a full 15 point maximum for Cradley in the National League on Monday.
